Full moon with clouds on a cold night.  The moon emits no light of it's own.  Moonlight is sunlight reflected from the moon's surface.  When the moon and sun are exactly opposite each other with the Earth in the middle, we can see the whole moon lit up by sunlight, the only time the moon looks round to us.
